The earlier blades such as this one maintained an exceptionally keen cutting edge, are very rugged and strong. There was actually a Japanese video training tape made demonstrating how to use one of these swords in the battlefield, in the film a blade was actually used to cut a machine barrel in half. This would be a superb sword for someone who wanted to practice kata, iaido or will make a good blade for cutting test practice.
