ANCESTRAL SWORD OF THE "Ii" DAIMYO FAMILY.
ERA: Kamakura, (Date on JUYO paper.) APPROX. 1288 AD.

THE NAKAGO (TANG): O-Suriage (shortened, original tang removed)
MEI (MAKERS SIGNATURE): Mu-Mei (unsigned)
YASURI-MEI (File marks) Very difficult to see (due to age)
JIRI (TANG END): Saki-Kiri (square)
MEKUGI ANA (HOLE IN TANG FOR RETAINING PEG): 3, with one filled

STYLE: Shinogi-Zukuri (most popular style)
MUNE (BACK RIDGE): Iori (peaked)
NAGASA (LENGTH OF CUTTING EDGE): 69.2 cm / 27-1/4”
SORI (CURVATURE): 1.8 cm / approx. 3/4”
Motohaba (WIDTH): 2.9 cm / 1-3/16”
BOSHI: (TEMPERING IN POINT): Midare-komi (short turn back)
KISSAKI (POINT STYLE): Chu-gissaki (medium point)
HAMON:(TEMPERING, MARTENSITE)
Hoso-suguba, (narrow & straight)
The Hamon Nie is "Urumigokoro" (extremely fine small nie) this gives
the appearance of being Cloud like Nioi, Nie this fine is very rare, and reflects great skill.
The activity within the Hamon includes: Kinsuji (curly white radiant lines, of Nie), and SUNAGASHI
(Nie formations looking like drifting lines of drifting sand)
HADA (BLADE GRAIN STYLE): Itame (wood grain) mixed with Ayasugi
(slightly curved, with rounded peaks) with Shiraki (Whitish) Utsuri (Reflection of
the Hamon, running parallel to it)
KOSHIRAE (FITTINGS): "DAIMYO GRADE" COMPLETE SET!
Adorned with the "Ii" Family Mon (crest)
STYLE: Uchigatana
SAYA: EXCEPTIONALLY RARE, SA-ME (ray skin) covered, Kurikata (cord
guide knob) is made of Rare Blond Horn.
KODOGU: (metal fittings) Fuchi, KASHIRA (handle end caps), Kojiri (end
cap of saya), Menuki (adornments under lacing) & kozuka (utility knife
in saya), are done in Shakudo (blackened copper, alloyed with gold) /
Nanako rows of dots) with the "Ii" Family Mon in Gold & Shakudo. The
tsuba is a Kiku (Chrysanthemum) design done in the finest Shakudo, in the Higo style.
Daimyo Koshirae, of this vintage (200 to 300 years old) is very rare. They are
an Excellent Candidate for "JUYO", and should be submitted. They are assembled with
a Tsunagi (wooden blade).
