Another excellent student of Naotane was Shigetane (重胤). Shigetane, his civilian name was äSawahara Noboru" (沢原旦, the first name can also be read äkira", äsake" or äan"), was actually a retainer of the Shirakawa fief (白河藩) of Ōshū province which he also signed in the variant (白川). We know blades by Shigetane from the Bunka (文化, 1804-1818) to the Ansei era (安政, 1854-1860). Most of them show a Sōshū-style gunome-midare or a suguha with ashi. Other Naotane-students were the Kaei-era (嘉永, 1848-1854) Ōama Mototsugu (大山元次) and the Bunsei-era (文政, 1818-1830) Miyoshi Tetsunosuke (三好鉄之助) alias Teruyoshi (照義) and Sawahara Tsunegorō(沢原常五郎) alias Tsunemaru (常丸).
