Tsu-50

 10.1 x 8.9

4" x 3 1/2"

For: Tachi or Large Katana, An Tsuba with this superb detail and extra large size is seldom encountered these days. It is made of Iron and is of the Tetsugendo (school) style. The Carving of the dragons frolicking amongst the clouds and waves is done with fastidious detail. It has GOLD nunome (accents) with gold and silver dots (tenzogan). Approximately 3 of the dots are missing. It is typical work of the late Tetsugendo artist (1850-1880 A. D.). It is signed Masa Tsune Saku (we have not been able to locate a photo of other works). It is not by Ishiguro-Masatsune and nothing implies that it is (this is a totally different school). There is some (very minor) rubbing and I wish they had never mounted it.

This is an impressive Tsuba for display or mounting, and is very difficult to find.
