


An exceptional scarce presentation tsuba (made for presentation and display). Made in the approx 1850's. Presentation Tsuba are considered to be true works of art and were never intended for mounting on a sword. Signed Suzuki Yoko. The Suzuki family is well known for creating most elaborate and rare presentation tsuba for formal occasions. The tsuba measures 9 CM x 8.2 cm (3 1/2" x 3 1/8"). It is constructed of heavy brass alloy, and includes inlays of gold, SHAKUDO, silver and red copper. It depicts Emma-O, the overseer of the under world (Hell) who is seizing an Oni as she tries to escape.
